Working with Couples

Lived Experience in Sobriety Work

Therapy is a great place to safely unpack what is going on for you right now.

Welcome, I am so glad you’re here.

I am Sarah of Sarah Simpson Therapy.

I offer professional counselling for adults seeking meaningful change.

I work with people navigating:

  • Anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm

  • Low mood, grief, and life transitions

  • Relationship difficulties and family dynamics

  • Identity, self-worth, and personal boundaries

  • Habit change and behavioural patterns

  • Addiction support and accountability

  • Trauma, adversity, and lived experience

  • A desire for deeper self-understanding and growth

You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling.

‘THERAPY IS A WAY TO FIND THE COURAGE TO FACE YOUR FEARS AND LIVE A MORE FULFILLING LIFE.’ IRVIN YALOM

Life can become overwhelming in quiet ways. You may be functioning well on the outside while feeling stuck, disconnected, anxious, or exhausted beneath the surface.

Counselling offers a thoughtful, confidential space to slow down, reflect, and make sense of what is happening without judgement and without pressure to have everything figured out.

I offer professional counselling for people seeking support with life’s challenges, personal growth, and emotional wellbeing.

My approach is grounded, compassionate, and informed by both clinical training and lived human experience. Counselling is not about being “fixed.” It is about being understood.

In our work together, we take time to explore your experiences, patterns, relationships, and inner world at a pace that feels safe and respectful. Some people come with a clear concern; others arrive with a general sense that something is not quite right. Both are welcome here.

I work in a pluralistic way which means I utilise many different modalities depending on what each client needs. No two people are treated the same - it is completely tailored to the individual I am working alongside.

Sometimes the most meaningful work happens when we pause early and listen carefully.

I offer in person sessions in Ponsonby, Auckland or online sessions.

I would love to meet you.

MY THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

My work is pluralistic, which means I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches and tools, selecting what best fits you, your goals, and your circumstances. There is no one-size-fits-all in therapy — what works for one person may not work for another.

This approach allows me to combine practical strategies, emotional exploration, relational work, and insight-based methods in a way that is flexible and responsive. Together, we decide what feels most helpful, whether that’s skills for managing anxiety, exploring past experiences, strengthening relationships, or building resilience and self-esteem.

Ultimately, therapy is a collaborative process. You are the expert in your own life, and my role is to provide guidance, understanding, and evidence-informed strategies that support meaningful, lasting change

  • This approach focuses on creating a safe, non-judgemental space where you are heard, understood, and valued. It emphasises your own strengths and capacity for growth, helping you explore your feelings and experiences at your own pace.ription text goes here

  • Narrative therapy helps you separate yourself from the problems you face, giving you the opportunity to re-author your story. It focuses on understanding the impact of experiences and relationships, and supports you in building meaning, resilience, and new possibilities for your life.

  • CBT is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps you identify unhelpful thoughts and behaviours and develop practical strategies to manage them. It can be particularly effective for anxiety, depression, and stress, supporting you to make lasting changes in how you think, feel, and act.
